چکیده
Introduction We evaluated whether 12-week intake of molecular hydrogen (H2) in 5 overweight adults (3 women; age: 50.2 ±11.9 years, body mass index: 29.4 ±2.1 kg/m2) affects brain levels the glutamate-glutamine-GABA cycle, critical amino acid neurotransmitters mechanism neuronal activation during appetite regulation. Material and methods A 1.5-T single-voxel proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy was used to assess tissue concentrations relevant metabolites. Results The mean glutamate glutamate-plus-glutamine at posterior cingulate gyrus decreased significantly study; this accompanied by a significant drop GABA left prefrontal white matter, glutathione anterior gyrus. No changes metabolites were found comparable group individuals (n = 4, 2 41.0 ±13.9, BMI 26.8 ±1.3 followed-up past without treatment. Conclusions showed possible hydrogen-driven upregulation involved stimulation leading hunger suppression weight loss. Further studies analyzing appetite-controlling metabolic pathways affected H2 would require monitoring additional biomarkers satiation satiety different feeding regimens.

Glutamine Modulates Macrophage Lipotoxicity
Obesity and diabetes are associated with excessive inflammation and impaired wound healing. Increasing evidence suggests that macrophage dysfunction is responsible for these inflammatory defects. In the setting of excess nutrients, particularly dietary saturated fatty acids (SFAs), activated macrophages develop lysosome dysfunction, which triggers activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome and cell d...
متن کاملSpectral quality of light modulates emotional brain responses in humans.
Light therapy can be an effective treatment for mood disorders, suggesting that light is able to affect mood state in the long term. As a first step to understand this effect, we hypothesized that light might also acutely influence emotion and tested whether short exposures to light modulate emotional brain responses. During functional magnetic resonance imaging, 17 healthy volunteers listened ...
متن کاملKisspeptin modulates sexual and emotional brain processing in humans
BACKGROUND Sex, emotion, and reproduction are fundamental and tightly entwined aspects of human behavior. At a population level in humans, both the desire for sexual stimulation and the desire to bond with a partner are important precursors to reproduction. However, the relationships between these processes are incompletely understood. The limbic brain system has key roles in sexual and emotion...
متن کاملIntranasal Oxytocin Selectively Modulates Large-Scale Brain Networks in Humans
A growing body of evidence indicates that the neuropeptide oxytocin (OT) alters the neural correlates of socioemotional and salience processing. Yet the effects of OT over important large-scale networks involved in these processes, such as the default mode (DM), ventral attention (VA), and cingulo-opercular (CO) networks, remain unknown. Therefore, we conducted a placebo-controlled crossover st...
متن کاملFeedback timing modulates brain systems for learning in humans.
The ability to learn from the consequences of actions--no matter when those consequences take place--is central to adaptive behavior. Despite major advances in understanding how immediate feedback drives learning, it remains unknown precisely how the brain learns from delayed feedback. Here, we present converging evidence from neuropsychology and neuroimaging for distinct roles for the striatum...
